“So They Say: Wisdom & Foolishness,” Show Preview

Our show is based on tidbits of wisdom and foolishness popularized in our culture. We’ve taken well known sayings and turned them into prints. The opening reception is Friday December 13, 2013 at 5:30pm at the Carnegie Center for the Visual and Performing Arts. You can find us upstairs in the Duveneck Gallery. Show runs until February 14, 2014.

So They Say: Wisdom and Foolishness
Prints by Northern Kentucky Printmakers

Northern Kentucky Printmakers (formerly the Northern Kentucky University Print Cub) is comprised of alumni, students, faculty and friends of the Northern Kentucky University print department who have been making and exhibiting prints together for over 25 years.  From its inception, the purpose of the group has been to engage alumni, current NKU printmaking students and faculty in creating new prints and exhibiting together. There are fifteen NKU Department of Visual Arts alumni and three current students in this show.

The NKU printmaking department has continually hosted visiting artists for lectures, demonstrations, and workshops in the NKU print room, supported by our member fundraisers. We regularly attend print conferences held each year by the Mid America Print Council and Southern Graphics Council International, where printmakers gather from all over the country to share techniques and current research on all facets of the printmaking discipline. The group currently has 27 active members.

We dedicate this show to the memory of Bonnie Mitsui, a patron and active member of our group for 15 years.

“In Your Dreams” at Northern Kentucky University

IN YOUR DREAMS at NKU’s 3rd Floor Main Gallery, that is. After numerous shows around the Cincinnati/NKY area, the Print Club of NKU applied (and was accepted) for a show in the very building where it began.

27 printmakers make up the club & this show, each hanging multiple works on the theme of dreams. We were inspired by poetry and music, and (sometimes) our very own dreams. The images that are currently hanging in the NKU gallery range from monotype to line etching, and many of them are hand altered/assembled, collage, or even painted upon. Each work includes some element of printmaking.
